Plum Room CafeSlow coffee & small plates
Warm cafe room with wooden tables, bentwood chairs and daylight falling across the floor

A day cafe, open since the spring

One quiet room, poured slowly from eight.

Filter by the cup, espresso pulled short, and a plate menu that changes with whatever the kitchen finds that week.

Why people stay

Good coffee, a short menu, and a table nobody will rush you from.

We keep the room small on purpose: thirty seats, no screens, music low enough to talk over. Come for a cup and a pastry, or settle in for a long lunch.

  • Open daily from 8am
  • Filter & espresso
  • Kitchen until 3pm

Today in the room

Three things happening behind the counter right now.

01

The brew bar

Two filter coffees on rotation each morning, ground to order. Ask which one is sweeter today and we will tell you honestly.

02

The small kitchen

Six plates, written up fresh each morning. Bread is baked before the doors open and the soup is whatever the market gave us.

03

The long table

One shared table down the middle for solo visits and short meetings. The window seats are kept for people with a book.

The room

A corner shop with plum walls, kept deliberately plain.

Plum Room began as a one-machine counter in a borrowed corner. We moved into this room because of the light: it swings across the floor all morning and softens the back wall by two o'clock.

Everything else followed from that. Tables sit far enough apart to hear your own conversation. The counter is low so you can watch the coffee being made. There is a shelf of chipped cups that regulars reach for without asking.

We are a small team and we like knowing names. If it is your first time, say so and we will walk you through the board.

Our coffee

Roasted close by, in small batches, for the cup not the bag.

We buy from two roasters who tell us where the coffee came from and what they paid for it. Everything is dialled in each morning before the first customer, and tasted again after lunch when the room warms up.

  • Two filters a day: one bright and fruited, one round and chocolatey.
  • House blend ground fresh for every double shot.
  • Oat, whole and semi-skimmed, all at the same price.
  • Retail bags at the counter, bagged the week they were roasted.

Enquire

Ask about a table or the room.

Tell us roughly when and how many, and we will write back with what we can hold.

We read enquiries between services, so replies usually come the same day the kitchen closes.
